What to Do in Gloucester This Summer: A Guide for New Residents

If you’ve just recently moved to Gloucester, chances are you’re going to want to get some events planned for summer, especially as this could well be the summer where none of our plans are scuppered (fingers crossed)!

To help with this, Simon Long Removals Gloucester are here to provide you with a list of the region’s top events.

Symonds Yat

If you like picturesque views, a good walk and some wild swimming, then head to Symonds Yat, one of Gloucestershire’s most famous vantage points. It’s a bit of a hike, but if you get to the top you are welcomed by a great view of the surrounding landscape and the River Wye below.

Clearwell Caves

If you’re feeling adventurous – and not too claustrophobic – then why not check out the Clearwell Caves below the Forest of Dean? With a tour guide to help you navigate the winding passageways, you certainly won’t be disappointed, and there are nine different caverns so there’s plenty to explore!

Museum of Gloucester

If the weather’s not looking great one day, then why not take a trip to the Museum of Gloucester? It’s one of the best places to learn about the city’s origins. You can find out all about the Roman settlement it used to be, and how it developed through the Dark Age and Middle Ages to the city it’s become today. This is certainly a must-do activity for any new Gloucester resident!

Puzzlewood

If you want a family walk with a twist, head to Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean. Puzzlewood is a maze of different pathways set in a magical woodland environment. There are old bridges to cross, twisted roots to manoeuvre past and rocky gulleys to find. In fact, Puzzlewood is such a picturesque, enchanting setting that it’s used as a set for a number of different films and television programmes including Merlin, Dr Who and Jack the Giant Killer.

Painswick Rococo Garden

If you’ve done your fair share of walking and are looking for a slightly different activity, then take a trip to Painswick Rococo Garden. It’s a haven of perfectly manicured hedges, beautiful and exotic plant life, and of course there’s the Magic Mayhem Trail which is perfect for little ones.

Gloucester Cathedral

If you’ve recently moved to Gloucester but you haven’t visited the cathedral yet, then this is one of the first things that you should do. It’s a mind-boggling bit of architecture and is bound to keep the family entertained for hours. The cathedral is open daily and everyone is welcome, you just need to be mindful of their opening times.
